1. Introduction
miSocial is a social platform, operated by skunkworx ("we", "us", "our"), where members
connect, share content and use a collection of apps and games. This Privacy Policy explains what
personal information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. It
applies to everyone who visits or uses miSocial.
2. Information We Collect
Information you give us:
- Account details: your name, email address, password (stored only in encrypted
form), date of birth and sex.
- Profile details: anything you add to your profile, such as photos, a bio,
relationship status, interests and other optional details. Some of these, such as dating
preferences, may be sensitive; you choose whether to share them.
- Phone number: if you add one, for example to receive text messages.
- Your content: posts, comments, photos, videos, messages, stories, notes, ratings
and anything else you create or upload in the platform's apps.
- Payments: details of the memberships and credits you buy. Card details are handled
by our payment processors; we only keep a reference to the payment and, at most, the card type and
last four digits.
- Messages to us: anything you send us, such as support requests and reports.
Information we collect automatically:
- Usage and device data: your IP address, browser and device type, pages visited,
and the date and time of your activity.
- Approximate location: your country, region or city, worked out from your IP
address. We do not collect your precise GPS location.
- How you found us: the website, link or campaign that brought you to
miSocial.
Information from others:
- Sign-in providers: if you sign in with Google, we receive your name,
email address and profile picture from them.
- Other members: for example, when someone invites you, tags you or sends you a
message.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To run the platform: to create and manage your account, show your profile and
content, deliver messages and run the apps and games you use.
- To personalize your experience: to suggest people, content and apps you may like,
and to show sensitive content only if you have chosen to see it.
- To process payments: to handle memberships and credits, and to keep records we are
required to keep.
- To communicate with you: to send account and service notices, and, where allowed,
news and offers by email or text message. You can opt out of promotional messages at any time.
- To keep the platform safe: to check ages, prevent fraud, spam and abuse, enforce
our Terms of Use and respond to reports.
- To improve the platform: to understand how the platform is used and which of our
promotions work.
4. Who Can See Your Information
Your profile and content are shown to other members or the public depending on your settings and
where you post. Private messages are visible only to the people in the conversation, but we may review
them when they are reported or when needed to keep the platform safe.
5. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:
- With service providers who help us run the platform, such as hosting, payment
processing (for example Stripe, Square or Authorize.net), and email and text-message delivery. They
may use your information only to provide their service to us.
- With sign-in providers such as Google, when you choose to sign in with
them.
- For legal reasons, when required by law, or to protect the safety and rights of
our members, the public or skunkworx.
- In a business transfer, if miSocial is sold or merged, in which case this
policy will continue to apply to your information.
- With your consent, in any other case.
Some of our service providers are located outside Canada, so your information may be stored or
processed in other countries, such as the United States.
6. Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We use our own cookies to:
- Keep you signed in, including the "remember me" option.
- Protect forms and your account from misuse.
- Remember your settings, such as whether sensitive content is shown.
- Record which link or campaign brought you to us, so we know which promotions work.
We do not use advertising cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but
signing in and some features will not work without them.
7. Data Retention
We keep your personal information for as long as your account is open and as long as needed for the
purposes in this policy. When you delete content or your account, we remove it from the platform and
delete it from our systems within a reasonable time, except where we must keep certain records, such
as payment records, by law, or to resolve disputes and enforce our terms.
8. Your Rights and Choices
You can view and edit most of your information in your account at any time. You can also ask us to:
- Access: give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: correct information that is wrong.
- Deletion: delete your account and personal information, subject to the limits in
section 7.
- Withdraw consent: stop using your information for a purpose you agreed to, such as
promotional messages.
- Portability: give you your information in a common, machine-readable format.
To make any of these requests, email us at privacy@misocial.net.
We may need to confirm your identity first. If you are not happy with our answer, you can contact the
Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or your local privacy authority.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including
encrypted connections and encrypted password storage. No method of storing or sending information over
the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please keep your password
private.
10. Age Requirements
You must be at least 16 years old to use miSocial. We do not knowingly collect information from
anyone under 16. If we learn that we have, we will delete the account and its information.
We use your date of birth to check that you are 18 or older before you can buy a paid membership or
view sensitive content.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this
page and change the effective date above. If a change is significant, we will let you know on the
platform or by email.
